Search Guidelines

1. Always quote the search word or phrase

"trusteeship" and "bill of rights" should be in quotes.

2. The search is not case sensitive

"Bill of Rights" and "bill of rights" return the same thing.

3. Normal searches look at all of the columns

"trusteeship" will search for that phrase in all searchable columns. See (4) below.

4. There are 6 searchable columns

• Type - Document type. See (5) below.
• Date - Date in YYYY-MM-DD format.
• Name - Name of the document.
• Citation - Formal citation for the document.
• Circuit - Circuit court (e.g. 2nd Circuit, 9th Circuit).
• Text - Full text of the document.

5. There are 5 document types

• Circuit Court
• District Court
• Supreme Court
• Statute
• Manual

6. Search a specific column

Search a specific column with ColumnName: "search phrase"

Type: "Circuit Court"

Date: "2024"

Circuit: "2nd Circuit"

7. Combine parameters with AND

"trusteeship" AND "fiduciary"

8. Exclude parameters with NOT

"trusteeship" NOT "election"

9. Search multiple parameters with OR

"trusteeship" OR "fiduciary duty"

10. Search multiple parameters that are near one another with NEAR

NEAR("trusteeship" "fiduciary",5)

11. Use parentheses for logic

"trusteeship" AND (Type: "Circuit Court" OR Type: "Supreme Court")
